STUDENT ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Junior/Senior standing (successful completion of 90 units)
- Minimum 3.0 GPA overall
- Completion of the following required course work
- BIBC 103 (Biochemical Techniques Lab) Must be completed before applying
- BICD 100 (Genetics)
- BIBC 102 (Metabolic Biochemistry)
One course may be taken concurrently except BIBC 103 Biochemical Techniques Lab
Not required but recommended Courses
- BIMM 100 (Molecular Biology)
- BIBC 100 (Structural Biochemistry)
- BIMM 101 (Recombinant DNA Lab)
- BICD 110 (Cell Biology)
- CHEM 140A (Organic Chemistry)
- CHEM 140B (Organic Chemistry)
BIO interns receive 4 units of academic credit each quarter for a maximum of 8 units. Interns are under the direction of both a workplace and faculty advisor in the Division of Biological Sciences at UCSD.
Intern expectations:
- Work a minimum of 14 hours per week for 10 weeks of enrolled quarter
- Meet with UCSD Biology Faculty Advisor per request
- Contact Coordinator if any questions or concerns a rise
- Present final presentation at the end of their enrolled quarter
Following your Internship- There are no academic internships in the summer. However students may be invited by their host company to continue their work full time with or without financial compensation.
