Testimonials

Lee Wong:
I believe the program is an excellent opportunity to check out what working in industry would be like. I think that it's an even better experience when a student puts as much time into the program as possible, rather than doing the minimum requirement since I know for a fact that doing research as a career takes up a lot of time and it doesn't just stop because you've put in your four hours for the day.

The program is also a great way to get out there and impress some people in the industry because it may serve you well later on in the future when you need references whether you are applying for a job in or outside of the industry or applying to a school of higher learning.

Jessica Lim:
It's a great opportunity to find out if you would like working in a lab or not. You get a taste of what it is like to work in a lab as a career not only through being there yourself, but interacting with the other scientists. It makes learning bio more interesting when you can apply it. It helps you become much more familiar with lab techniques, too.

Jeffrey Smith:
I have gained real world lab experience and now have a feel for what working in a commercial lab is like. I have also improved my presentation and public speaking skills.

Brian Chan:
This is a valuable program because of the opportunity to work in a professional lab doing intellectually stimulating work. The student is not doing little petty jobs such as washing glassware but instead is entrusted to work out and complete scientific experiments where money is riding on the line. There is always something to be gained when one works in a professional environment; this program offers that opportunity and any student that can take this internship, should take this internship.

Josphine Chou:
I think this program is a great way for students to find out what it is like working in the biotechnology field. Academic curricula is in no way adequate for preparation for this field, and the internship showed me that I needed more experience before I could make a decent living after graduation. What I liked about this program is that since it is through UCSD, I was not placed doing menial or repetitive tasks for Syngenta. Instead, I was given the opportunity and the resources to learn and perform various laboratory tasks in order to improve my skills.

Jason Hwang:
Great opportunity to see what biotech is all about, a good learning experience both intellectually and personally, chance to develop friendships for future networking.
